Walther Ppk Serial Number List
Walther PPK Serial Numbers Discussion in 'Firearms' started by psrumors, Dec 17, 2008. Dec 17, 2008 #1. Psrumors Well-Known Member. I read a little. The serial number suffix 'A' indicates the 9mm Kurz (.380 ACP) caliber on post-war German PP's. The eagle/N proof mark has the Bundesadler, a different eagle design from the Nazi eagle, and the Ulm address and 'West Germany' marking all identify it as a postwar gun. All Walther PPK/S were produced in one of 2 places, France or the US. In 1968 the US law changed which required Walther to marry the larger PP frame with the shorter PPK slide and barrel, thus the PPK/S was born. Walther Serial Number Lookup The first 10,000 pistols produced at the start of the year had no suffix letter. For example: The 25,000th pistol produced in a certain year had serial number 5000b,and the 35,000th pistol produced had serial number 5000c.
The Walther PPK (Polizei Pistole Kriminal) was produced since 1930. It was developed for a hidden carriage. The engineers from Walther reduced the length, width and weight. The main difference to the PP is the frame with no back strap. this function was integrated in a single molded Grip. Also the grip was shortened, so the clip has only a capacity of 7 rounds. The shortness was balanced with a magazine-shoe on the bottom.
Walther's Patent Cal 7,65 m/m. Hoffschmidt's 'Know Your Walther PP & PPK' or Gene Gangarosa's 'The Walther Handgun Story: A Collector's and Shooter's Guide.' Either one of these books will contain an index of serial numbers for Walther guns. Keep in mind Hoffschmidt's book was written circa 1975, so it will have information that is more dated.
The PPK and the PP were also produced very successfully after war. Even James Bond had an Walther PPK.
